Randburg Montessori is committed to enhancing the development
of children in all aspects, regardless of their circumstances,
thus producing the foundations for competent, independent
and valuable individuals, who will become assets to society
as they mature.
It is with this in mind that children will
be given the freedom necessary for exploration and discovery
while promoting an understanding and acceptance of others
without prejudice. They will be encouraged to develop their
God given talents and interests to reach their full potential
within this child centred environment that is both stimulating
and supportive.

After qualifying as a Montessori Directress in the mid 1990’s,
Kym van Straaten worked in various Montessori schools both
in South Africa and abroad. During this time she steadily
worked towards realising her vision to open a world-class
school in South Africa based on the educational methods pioneered
by Dr. Maria Montessori. With a venue secured at Randburg
Sports Complex, January 2002 brought 5 children with eager
and supportive parents to the first class of Randburg Montessori.
During that first year enrolments steadily grew until our
first class, now with 12 children, had outgrown the venue.
In the December of 2002 we moved to The Ferndale Recreation
Centre which had room to expand. In 2004 Randburg Montessori
accepted enrolments for our first toddler group for children
aged 18 months – 3. In 2008 we opened a second pre school
environment for children aged 3 – 6 years.
Although all the children that have been
in our care are loved and remembered by us. We are most grateful
for those first four families who took a chance and enrolled
their precious children in our first class.
Because of an overwhelming interest from
past and present parents, plans are already being made to
extend the school through grade 3.
Randburg Montessori’s goal is to give its learners an
education that will prepare them to succeed both in primary
school and in life in a rapidly changing world. Like all Montessori
schools, Randburg Montessori emphasizes hands-on discovery-based
learning. Although the programme promises to strive for an
exceptional standard of excellence, children are encouraged
to develop themselves holistically. It is with this in mind
that Randburg Montessori strives to employ the best teachers
to suit the specific needs of the children. We have specifically
employed an Art Directress and Music Director to ensure the
children receive a balance between academic performance and
creative expression.
Here, we share a commitment to a close
partnership between home and school, and our innovative educational
programme leads learners to develop extraordinary levels of
personal responsibility, independence, and self-confidence.
